Levi's — Quality Never Goes Out of Style · Chapter 2 of 9

Scene geometry

Streets, walls and props rebuilt as shadow catchers — 90% in Blender, the tricky parts in Nuke ModelBuilder.

Blender layout of the alley geometry

Once the cameras were solved, we rebuilt everything the robot touches: streets, walls, props and ground planes. The geometry gives the render correct shadows, bounce light and reflections, and gives animation something to collide with.

About 90% of it was blocked out in Blender — most shots needed structural accuracy, not detailed modelling. Curved surfaces, small props and perspective-sensitive areas were modelled in Nuke ModelBuilder, straight from the plate, without leaving compositing.

  • Shadow catchers and contact surfaces for the robot.
  • Correct GI and reflections in rendering.
  • Collision references for animation.
  • One continuous geometry between Blender layouts and Nuke projections.
