Levi's — Quality Never Goes Out of Style · Chapter 8 of 9

Cleanup & plate preparation

Removing the performer from every plate — manual paint where it matters, AI where it repeats.

· 1 min

Clean plate of a Bangkok street

Before the robot went in, every trace of the performer in the green suit had to go — as if he had never been there. On a tight schedule we used a hybrid pipeline.

  1. Manual cleanup in Nuke and Photoshop: roto, projection paint, reconstruction of walls, clothes, tables and ground. For hero shots and anything with complex parallax.
  2. AI-assisted cleanup on static and slow shots to speed up repetitive paint, then refined by hand in Nuke to remove artefacts.
  3. Original shadows kept and rebuilt separately where possible.
  4. Degrain before projection, regrain to match the camera noise.
AI assistance cut cleanup time per shot by almost half, without losing realism.
