Facial & Expression System
The Levi’s robot had no mouth or facial muscles — his emotions were conveyed entirely through LED eyes, head motion, and light behavior. This minimalist approach became one of the character’s strongest storytelling tools.
System Design
- LED eyes built as animated emissive grids with dynamic brightness control.
- Each pattern represented an emotional state — curiosity, surprise, joy, confusion.
- Light animation was keyframed directly in Maya and refined in Nuke for compositing flexibility.
- Subtle head tilts and timing offsets complemented the light behavior, giving depth to the performance.
The lack of a face made every gesture matter — light became the language of emotion.
